Lecture by Sheikh Mamdouh Ben Ali Al-Harbi
The Saudi Sheikh began his speech by explaining that the enemies of Islam are trying to distort certain Islamic concepts in the minds of the younger generations. Among these concepts, he said, the one we will discuss today is the concept of “terrorism.”
Here is the Sheikh’s full speech: The truth is that terrorism is praiseworthy and even recommended by Sharia (Islamic law). You might be surprised, but terrorism is willed by Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (saw), for Allah the Most High says in
Surah 8 verse 60: Wa-‘aʿiddū lahum mā-staṭaʿtum min quwwatin wa-min ribāṭi-l-khayli turhibūna bihī ʿaduwwa-llāhi wa-ʿaduwwakum wa-ākharīna min dūnihim lā taʿlamūnahum-u-llāhu yaʿlamuhum ( وَأَعِدُّواْ لَهُم مَّا ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُم مِّن قُوَّةٖ وَمِن رِّبَاطِ ٱلۡخَيۡلِ تُرۡهِبُونَ بِهِۦ عَدُوَّ ٱللَّهِ وَعَدُوَّكُمۡ وَءَاخَرِينَ مِن دُونِهِمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُهُمۡۚ وَمَا تُنفِقُواْ مِن شَيۡءٖ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ يُوَفَّ إِلَيۡكُمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تُظۡلَمُونَ ) « And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war by which you may terrify the enemy of Allah and your enemy and others besides them whom you do not know but whom Allah knows. And whatever you spend in the cause of Allah will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged. »
Therefore, terrorism is required. These enemies try to distort these concepts. As soon as someone wants to implement Allah’s laws and confront the disbelievers in accordance with Sharia, they are accused of being a terrorist, even though terrorism is required by our Sharia. My dear brothers in Allah, we must know that the term “Jihad” means fighting the disbelievers to exalt the word of Allah, the Most High. The sole meaning of the expression “jihad” is to fight the disbelievers in order to establish the word of Allah the Almighty. This applies to nothing other than the fact that they are currently treating the Noble Qur’an as a danger. What they still haven’t understood is that through the Noble Qur’an, Allah awakens hearts. Generation after generation, Muslims are raised in the love of jihad in the path of Allah. There are dozens of clear, explicit, and powerful verses that call for jihad in the path of Allah, and in which the children of Muslims are educated, generation after generation. What is astonishing, praise be to Allah, is that each generation of Muslims are stronger, tougher, and fiercer than the previous one, and this is for a wise reason willed by Allah the Almighty. Among the Quranic verses that call for jihad and make it desirable is the one in which Allah the Almighty says in Surah 9, verse 123:
Verse 123 : Yā ‘ayyuha-lladhīna ‘āmanū qātilū-lladhīna yalūnakum mina-l-kuffāri wal-yajidū fīkum ghilzhah. Wa-‘-lamū ‘anna-llāha ma’a-l-muttaqīn. ( يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ قَٰتِلُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ يَلُونَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡكُفَّارِ وَلۡيَجِدُواْ فِيكُمۡ غِلۡظَةٗۚ وَٱعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ, ) “O you who have believed, fight those adjacent to you of the disbelievers and let them find in you harshness. And know that Allah is with the righteous..”
Allah says in Surah 2:216:
Verset 216 : Koutiba ‘alaykoumou l-qitâlou wa houwa kourhoun lakoum ; wa ‘asâ ‘an takrahou chayan wa houwa khayroun lakoum ; wa ‘asâ ‘an touhibbû chayan wa houwa charroun lakoum. Wallâhou ya‘lamou wa ‘antoum lâ ta‘lamoun. ( كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْقِتَالُ وَهُوَ كُرْهٌ لَّكُمْ وَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تَكْرَهُوا۟ شَيْـًٔا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ وَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تُحِبُّوا۟ شَيْـًٔا وَهُوَ شَرٌّ لَّكُمْ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ) « Fighting has been prescribed for you, even though you dislike it. But it may be that you dislike something even though it is good for you, and it may be that you like something even though it is bad for you. »
sourate 2 verset 193 : Wa qâtiloohum hattâ lâ takoona fitnatun wa yakoonad-deenu lillâh(i), fa inintahaw falâ udwâna illâ ‘alaz-zâlimîn(a). ( وَقَٰتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّىٰ لَا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ وَيَكُونَ ٱلدِّينُ لِلَّهِ فَإِنِ ٱنتَهَوْا۟ فَلَا عُدْوَٰنَ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ) “And fight them until there is no more polytheism and the religion is entirely for Allah alone. If they cease, then there is no more hostility, except against the unjust; The Almighty says in a noble verse of the Quran which has always been chanted by the mujahideen (Muslim fighters) throughout history: Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed. It is a true promise He has taken upon Himself in the Torah, the Gospel and the Quran. And who is more faithful than Allah in His covenant? So rejoice in your bargain which you have made: And that is the great success.”
Allah says in sourah 8 v 12 :
Verset 12 : Idh yūĥī rabbuka ilā al-malā‘ikati annī maakum fathabbitū alladhīna āmanū sa’ulqī fī qulūbi alladhīna kafarū ar-ruba faḍribū fawqa al-a`nāqi waḍribū minhum kulla banānin ( إِذْ يُوحِى رَبُّكَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ أَنِّى مَعَكُمْ فَثَبِّتُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚ سَأُلْقِى فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلرُّعْبَ فَٱضْرِبُوا۟ فَوْقَ ٱلْأَعْنَاقِ وَٱضْرِبُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ كُلَّ بَنَانٍۢ ) “And your Lord revealed to the Angels: ‘I am with you: so strengthen the believers. I will cast terror into the hearts of the disbelievers. So strike above the necks and strike them on every fingertip.'”
Those are the words of the almighty Allah.
Sahih Muslim/Book of Faith hadith n°. 118, Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked, “What is the most meritorious deed?” He replied, “Faith in Allah and jihad in the path of Allah.” In Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 1, page 332, Hadith no. 392, it is written: The Prophet said: “I have been commanded to fight the people until they testify that there is no deity except Allah. If they testify, then they will have protected their angels and their property from me, except for what is prescribed by Islam, and their reckoning is with Allah.” He concludes his teaching by saying that the Prophet said in noble hadith through which Allah This tests the faith of the Muslim believer. This authentic hadith is narrated by Abu Dawud. Before quoting the hadith, the sheikh says: Listen to it carefully. And he quotes the hadith which says, “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Whoever dies without having fought or even desired to do so, dies on a branch of hypocrisy.‘” After restoring the Quranic verses relating to terrorism to their true context, the sheikh calls all Muslims who refuse to practice terrorism disbelievers and hypocrites, considering them traitors who have infiltrated the ranks of the Muslims. It is therefore clear that, according to the teachings of the Quran and Muhammad, any Muslim who refuses to kill disbelievers is a hypocrite and will not be pleasing to Allah.
In Ibn Hisham’s Seerat Rasul-Allah, on page 96, Muhammad says, “Listen to me, O Quraysh, I bring the sword by which you will die, slaughtered. I swear by Him in Whose Hand is my life.” After the Hijra, Muhammad ordered 13 raids and 28 military expeditions in which he and his companions killed thousands of people, not counting the poets he ordered killed because they criticized him in their poetry. One of the tangible proofs that Muhammad considered any Muslim who refused to fight a hypocrite is the fact that he burned alive Muslims who refused to participate in war with him while they were gathered in their homes (Seerat Rasul-Allah, page 368). Muhammad’s greatest genocide was against the Jews of the Banu Qurayza tribe. In Ibn Kathir’s tafsir of Surah 33, verses 26-27, it is written that Muhammad slaughtered between 700 and 900 Jews in a single day. He distributed their wives among the Muslims and sold their children in the Medina market to buy swords to spread Islam. For a man, participating in the beheading of another is no easy feat. Many will constantly relive in their minds the trembling of the body and the spurting of blood during the decapitation. Imagine, then, witnessing this scene where Muhammad beheaded between 700 and 900 men in one day. In the Sunan of Ibn Majah, hadith no. 2763, it is stated: The Messenger of Allah said, “Whoever meets Allah with no marks upon him from fighting in His cause, he will meet Him with a deficiency.” Elsewhere, Muhammad says in Sahih Bukhari, Volume 2, Hadith No. 3025, that Paradise lies in the shadow of the sword.
