WAITING FOR A PROMISED MESSIAH

When we go back to the time of Jesus, history informs us that in their worship, the Jews awaited the coming of the Messiah for the renewal of the covenant. The law of Moses and the writings of the prophets had announced in advance the birth of Jesus. In Isaiah 7v14, it is said that the sign by which we will recognize the messiah is that a virgin will become pregnant and will give birth to a son. And when the time came for the prophecy to be fulfilled, the scripture teaches us that it was the angel Gabriel who announced to Mary the birth of the baby Jesus. But Mary did not understand how it was possible for a virgin to conceive. In Luke chapter 1v26 -35, the angel Gabriel explained to Mary that this will happen by virtue of the Holy Spirit. And he added that this is the reason why the holy child that will be born, will be called the Son of God. In the New Testament, it is the angel Gabriel who was the first to make it known that Jesus is the Son of God. He also tells Mary that Jesus will reign eternally and his reign will have no end, that is, His time will never be over. When we read Luke chapter 2 verse 22-24, it is reported that when Jesus was born, his parents consecrated him to the Most High God, in the temple of Jerusalem. And from verse 25 to 38, it was said that that same day, an old man filled with the Spirit of God called Simeon and a prophetess over 80 years old named Anne saw in the child Jesus, the Messiah promised to Israel. It is important to come back to the words of this old man, filled with the Spirit of God, when he took the baby Jesus in his arms.

Then took him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation.Luke 2 : 28-30

He said in this verse that Jesus is the salvation of God, and

” from verse 31 to verse 32, he also said: “salvation which thou hast prepared before the face of all the peoples; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel”.

So, he said that Jesus is the salvation that God has prepared for all people and that he is also the light to enlighten all the nations. But above all, he will be the glory of Israel. In verse 34 he says that Jesus will be a fall for many and an uplift for many others. Finally, he says that Jesus will be a sign that will provoke contradiction. Please meditate on these things and observe the world today as regards Jesus. Jesus has really become a subject that provokes contradictions in the world.
