In the biography of Muhammad, the phrase “Allahu akbar” was uttered for the first time by Muhammad’s grandfather to refer to the god hubal. And this was long before Islam. When you still take the biography of Muhammad of ibn Hicham, page 45, we read that one day, Muhammad’s grandfather was digging at the feet of idols and while he was digging, he found stones; which had served to fill the well of zamzam the two golden gazelles which had been hidden there by the jurhum before their exile from Mecca, swords and shields. When he found these objects, he cried “Allahu akbar”. He is Muhammad’s grandfather, so all this happened before Islam. After shouting “Allahu akbar”, the quourayses decided to share the items he found with him. When you read the following you will clearly see that it was hubal that Muhammad’s grandfather called Allahu akbar. The rest tells us: “no, ” he replied. But I offer you a fair solution for you and for me. We will draw lots of these sacred objects close to the god hubal”. This is what was written. So when he found the objects, he shouted “Allahu akbar ”, but when they wanted to share the objects with him, he said that he must consult hubal to know his will on the issue of the objects found. Meanwhile, we have already been told on page 45 that hubal is the greatest idol in their pantheon, which means that to abd al-muttalib, Allahu-akbar is hubal, the greatest of all the deities of the Ka’aba. This is the historical origin of Allahu akbar.
