The first person that bore witness to the public ministry of Jesus was John the Baptist. What is extraordinary in his testimony was that, in John 1v33-34 he said that he saw the Spirit descend on Jesus in the form of a dove and testify that he is the Son of God. In John 1v29, he presents Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Moreover, in John 3v30, he says that his ministry must disappear for the benefit of the ministry of Christ. In John 3v24-36, we see that not only did John believe in Jesus as the Son of God, he encouraged those who came to him to follow Christ henceforth. John also affirms that whoever believes in Jesus as the Son of God has eternal life but those that do not believe that he is the Son of God will not see life but that the wrath of God will remain on him. John the Baptist also said in John 1v31 that he was sent to present Jesus to Israel as the Messiah. And in the gospel, we saw that he presented him to Israel before he died. This is tangible proof that his mission came from God. Because nothing stands in the way of God’s plan. You will notice that the message of John the Baptist confirms that of the angel Gabriel to Mary, that is to say, Jesus is the Son of God.
